Connecting via US on UA... recliner style 2-3-2 or lie flat 2-4-2, with double immigration, plus you have a narrow body flight to connect that's nothing to write home about. Or; connecting via YUL/YYZ to AC metal, with better hard product but added connection and no saving on surcharges.
For such a northern flight route, any connection this side of the Atlantic adds 4-5 hours at a minimum.
My personal choice in this case is the nonstop.
As mentioned, there are other options
via YYZ to WAW - low scamcharges, flat bed all the way, and a far superior TATL product to AC
via YUL to ZRH on LX - no scamcharges, but domestic AC
via ORD/LAX on TK - superior product to AC - but a detour
via ORD on SK - apparently new cabin coming next year
