I know it's frowned upon by many, but I often travel with a suit that I can also mix the jacket with unmatched trousers. Some will warn against this due to uneven wear between the jacket and pants, but I'm usually wearing comparatively low-end suits and I still have the jacket/pants cleaned together. I have a blue window-pain print suit that lends itself to being worn with about any shade of chino or brown trouser except the darkest chocolate brown, as well as light to medium grey trousers as well. When I travel for 3+ nights I usually travel in jeans with the jacket and pack the pants and the appropriate number of pants. On shorter trips I'll pack a pair of pants for each day (overkill) but for longer trips I'll get 2 days wear out of pants. If I wear a full suit/tie during the day then, depending on the event, I'll drop the tie and change into chinos for dinner/evening.
Not every line of business will allow for chinos or mixed jacket/trousers, but mine does (and honestly I usually end up being the best dressed in the room even in chinos/jacket/no-tie). It might not suit (pun intended) your needs, but I wouldn't completely shy away from mixing a suit jacket with unmatched trousers to widen your mix-and-match options while still traveling light.
