Tend to agree with this. I would even go so far as to say that they should be fine without any transition period as long as you don't plan on running in them. Many people are just fine walking around barefoot or in flip flops, I see this as no different.

However, even if you typically run just a couple of miles and want to do so in minimal shoes, I would suggest transitioning slowly. I had issues with top of foot pain, very sore calves, and a tender achilles because i tried to ramp up too quickly. I had to take a couple months off of running completely to heal up before transitioning back into it.
