I found the Michelin Green Guide for the area to be the best guide for the area, especially if interested in driving around the area and also getting in some time going up in altitude in the Maritime Alps. Having a car to explore the area made my trips all the more enjoyable and I recommend considering a rental car for a good chunk of the time. [Even as I usually try to avoid driving when/where I can, my best trips as an adult to this area included driving around.]
