If the carryon is found to be oversized, it goes in the hold. Don't think you'll be charged for it though. I have not really seen BA as very strict on this by european means, but if you try to bring your whole house on board as is somewhat SOP in the US, you can expect the gate agent to force you to check it.

If your bags are about the allowed size, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it tbh.
