If I were you I'd have a look at my trip report

I paid £25 per day for a car through Holiday Autos (it ended up being from Thrifty).

I would crash the first night at the Airport HNL hotel. We got $150 per night and although it wasn't great, there is a shuttle from the airport and it means you can drink like a fish on the LAX - HNL flight, and wake refreshed to pick up the car the next day

For the rest of our trip we stayed at the Embassy Suites, but if I were travelling solo I wouldn't bother. Drop me a PM if you want any further information.
