I have driven extensively throughout Kyushu, and also Hiroshima and Osaka on day trips when they had the 1,000 tolls ! Kyushu is great for a drive, so much to see ! You could easily spend a week just driving around, stopping here and there ! It takes about 4 hours from Fukuoka City to Kagoshima City on the expressway.....it would take much longer on national road #3.
