Hello all,

currently spending 10 days in HNL, staying at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort.
On my flight over to Oahu, a local sitting next to me suggested a day trip to Volcanoes National Park on Big Island as a good day trip.
Fly into Hilo early a.m., rent a car and drive to Volcanoes NP, return to HNL same day on the last p.m. flight.

Has anybody done this before and can share their experience? Doable? Worth it?

Should I rather start the trip from KOA or is Hilo airport better?
