Just a side though but has any of FT readers here been to the properties in the area (The OP mentioned Cape Town)? If they have they may be able to cast some light on the charging policy of the hotels (or even the one the OP has booked) as to how far in advance payment is normally taken for AP bookings.

This would then give the OP an idea of whether or not they will be charged anything or not.
