What they told you is correct according to policy. The policy is that you may earn two MQMBoosts per SM# for each 'category' of card (personal/business). You've already earned two boosts on a personal Reserve card, so signing up for the personal Platinum won't do you much good. You could still get a business card and receive the boosts from that, though.
