Jetta TDIs are pretty rare in the fleet; I haven't even seen it as an online reservable class in a while (it even lost its "Z6" keytag code, which is now for the new Corvette). In the off chance that you do come across one, I'd expect it to be at least comparable with a full-size, if not even more expensive, in that it is a specialty car (Green Collection). Also don't expect it to be new or low-mileage -- they, like the Crown Victoria, are rare for a reason.

I will echo marvanit's sentiment and suggest you rent elsewhere if you haven't been happy with Hertz. I'd say there's less than a 5% chance they will have one in your region. They used to be spotted more occasionally in California.
