My first handle was YEG Guy. I grew up in YEG and lurked on FT for a few years before creating a handle in 2001. Three months later I packed up and moved down the road to YYC.

I retained my YEG handle until this past fall. Big reason for the change was a public spat between the YEG Airport Authority and Air Canada. The spat reminded me of how small minded my "hometown" can be at times and how in regards to travel YEG Airport does not share my viewpoint. Most importantly, most of my travel history now favoured YYC and YYC is the hometown for both my wife and daughter.

Time for a change so I started up a conversation with the FT Admins about changing my handle. My first to initials are K and G so I had taken the handle Cage to other forums. However the FT Admins said that Cage was all ready taken.

I then thought about Wildrose, which as my signature states is the Alberta provincial flower. I strongly align with the Alberta spirit and thought something along those lines was appropriate. Wildrose Cage was considered too long so the handle so WR Cage was born.

Finally my political left leaning sister had previously used Wildrose in her g-mail address. Wildrose is right wing (social and fiscal conservative) provincial political in Alberta. My sister got a lot of snide remarks about her gmail handle and the political party. I avoided the mistake of putting a full Wildrose into the handle.
