Business Travelers, are you switching to Delta Jan 1? (earn by spend program)
I have not flown Delta since college. However, I am tentatively planning to switch to Delta as my main carrier for 2015. With the new program, I would be crazy not to switch (ignoring all else).
I fly 4 long hauls a year to Asia/Europe/Brazil. I have been on United the last few years, but I have a current streak of 9 of 11 trips (a trip being over the water, one way) with more than a 1 hour delay (and of course numerous cancellations). So my love for United, is definitely running thin.
Obvious the Delta Status match makes this decision easier. Even if I only get matched to Gold, a standard R/T to Europe in Business is about $5k. Thats 40k miles are that trip alone. I should clear about 200k points per year with a $25k spend. That is significant.
Without studying Delta, my problems are these:
- Skyteam is weak. Except for Air France, I can't say I've ever flown any of the other partners.
- No direct flights from the US to India? I don't mind switching my main airport to ATL from ORD, but I can't go from ATL to India nonstop? Weak.
- Another is that the only nonstop to Hong Kong is out of SEA.
I'm curious to what other business travelers are going to do. Is the new program rewarding enough to match the switch? AA is pretty generous with their miles earning if you have status. UA not so much.
