I agree, it is far from certainty that DL will "win LAX," and it may well end up with egg in its face (which will not be the first time that it's happened). However, UA is ceding ground while DL (and soon AA) is actively pursuing it. Anyone interested in game theory can postulate the likelihoods of the possible outcomes.
