Quick question, was LAX-SJC at risk flying for OO?
I have a friend who is a senior level project manager for HP based in BFL flies to MEX/LHR/LAX/BOM/and a bunch of other places for work. He is not going to be happy about this cut.

For almost anyone, how is this direct flight a superior option to SFO? (now available from NRT and Haneda)
I agree with you on the former, for the latter, I can think of a couple reasons. Much quicker from the office to the plane [perk of smaller airport] and SJC is not delay prone like SFO. Much easier and less stressful catching a plane out of SJC. When I grew up in the bay area [Pleasanton], SJC was my primary airport. I flew in/out of SJC a couple of times in recent years and the city did a fantastic job with the airport renovation [getting rid of C, the new B terminal and remodeling A as well as surrounding airport facilities].
Also, the convenience of hopping on the light rail from downtown to the airport is a huge plus IMO.
ETA: Oh forgot to add, customs in SFO is miserable during certain times of the day, seeing the line snake into the terminal corridor is not uncommon. Global Entry helps a lot, but not everyone has one.
