I did some digging and came up with some info on the Star alliance page.
Here is what that site says - and based on this info, and the logo posted on the sign at the door, I would maintain that since the F side was labeled as a Star Gold lounge, I should have been allowed in to either side.
That interpretation is incorrect. The *G lounge is a business class lounge.
The rules for *A F lounge access are as follows:
International First Class Customers
Customers have access to International First Class and/or any Star Alliance member carriers' own lounges.
- Customer must present a boarding pass for travel in International First Class on a Star Alliance flight
- Customer
must be departing from the local airport in

a few years ago, pm, I could get in CA's F lounge with 1K card. Not sure about the rule now.
I am 100% sure about the rule. It is as stated above. *A F lounge access requires departing international F boarding pass.
