New guy here and couldn't really find this answer through searches.

I'm curious how quickly medallion status takes effect. I'm just shy of Silver right now and I will have enough dollars and miles for Silver when I land at my destination. I'll spend a week there before returning home and was curious if I'd be able to use the Silver benefits and select a complimentary preferred seat before the check-in window when everyone else gets to purchase them.
