Hi
I would be very grateful if someone could answer me a couple of questions about last minute options for upgrades. Apologies if it has been covered before but I did search the forum and

.
Am flying LHR-DXB out on Thursday - BA 109 and back on Tuesday - BA 106 for a short break for our anniversary.
Purchased WT+ T class via BA.com.... And by random luck managed to upgrade with Avios to CW about 4 weeks ago for the outbound sector ^
Then spent the next 4 weeks checking daily the availability for the return......with no success.
From the forum it has been suggested that last minute availability may come up 3-6 days before the flight. Other comments suggest this practice has changed. The luxury sale apparently affects seats......and I fly back on the last day of the sale

. I see quotes that DXB and New York to be slightly different - good or bad I am not sure!

and then I am not sure if I should ring or check availability online regularly (I think they are the same) and whether I should delay my OLCI to see if I get something offered closer to departure?
I think availability for seats is wide open on the return. If someone could check class availability I might have a better idea of my chances.
And I would be most grateful for a strategy to maximise my chances.....and your thoughts if the chances that UwA seats will get released on this sector? Also I haven't seen a quote for Airport cash upgrade price from WT+ to CW on this sector.....but from my reading I sense this will be offered on the day.
Thanks to all. I used to just book revenue seats and UwA at the time of booking. Then small children arrived and availability for 5 seats in school holidays meant I stopped looking for reward seats. So this is like reinventing the wheel for me.......
