The focus is on corporate contracts but management doesn't seem to realize that they don't have us locked up, even at SFO. Most of my colleagues fly other *A metal to Asia, rather than deal with UA flight cancellations and inferior service. LH is popular to Europe (and usually priced comparably) and we are now being pushed to use DL to Africa and WN to HOU (I am told the DL BF product is better but haven't sampled it yet). No doubt we still do millions in HVF travel with UA (due to generous corporate discounts) but I'd bet the figure would easily double if UA could get its act together and also incentivize travelers to throw more business to UA. From what I can tell only the GS travelers have any loyalty, as 1Ks are a dime a dozen @ SFO and lucky to make it into single digits on the CPU list. Not to mention the many horror stories about missed flights, trips in vain, etc.
I don't think Jeffy really misses all the low value 1Ks in the back of the plane, but he is sure starting to see the results from stiffing the HVF business travelers. And it's not looking like the trend is turning...
