Well, I will admit that I am no foodie, but I feel like I have always eaten OK without having to wait in a lot of lines.

For sure the weather will have been a damper for you. My first time (in Nov 2012) it also rained a lot of the time. Had a sunny day at Taroko and another in Taipei but that was it. And I also felt like the rain and clouds made the experience a lot less fun. Last year when I was there it was much nice weather at the end of October and it did feel a lot more fun to me. There's a lot more still to Taiwan. I spent some time around Keelung with my guide and found it interesting, including Yehliu Geopark. I took the fast train down to Tainan last year and liked it. The drive down the east coast was great for me. Did Sun Moon Lake last year which was OK.
