I did not call yet since I don't want anyone messing with the booking until I understand what to do. Advice is appreciated how to approach this, and I would also be grateful to hear recent experience as to which taxes I can reasonably expect to be reimbursed.
In my experience, it's best not to tell the airline in advance, but just to be a "no-show" - ask the other passengers to explain to check-in staff that you can't fly so they can remove you from the PNR. And you can later make a claim for the taxes, after the itinerary is finished.
