I'm a US citizen and plan to travel BOM-DOH-BCN (final destination Spain) in June but my passport expires in August. Does anybody know if I'll be allowed to fly? I believe airlines are supposed to follow the rules set by the consulate of the destination country
Also, are most agents at check-in meticulous at checking the rules or simply check to see if the passport is valid on that date and allow one through?
If it helps, I do have my return ticket booked as well just a week later back to BOM

Let's look at it this way. Can you afford to stay in Mumbai for the week after the airline refuses to fly you to Barcelona? Can you afford to throw away the round-trip ticket without using it? Can you afford to miss whatever reason you're flying to Barcelona in the first place? Can you (or your heart) afford the stress of having to do a last-minute passport renewal, and can you afford the seriously elevated cost? If none of that really matters, hey, no problems, you'll be FINE.
Have you perhaps checked into whether you are truly legal in India with only two months remaining on your passport? And have you checked into how long it will take to get your passport renewed there?
Just do it!
