I dropped the hotel an e-mail a moment ago and will try calling them this evening when I get home...
ETA: The hotel handled it via e-mail without a problem.
I'd suggest emailing the Diamond Desk for clarification on this "policy". You may have gotten a lazy agent and they should be re-trained or re-assigned.
