An aircraft's age has nothing to do with the comfort of the passenger cabin. The latter is determined by the operating airline. For example, the DL DC-9s had a renovated cabin much like that of newer MD aircraft and had relatively comfortable seats. In contrast, passengers are complaining about the passenger cabins on brand new aircraft.
It doesn't help that they're jamming in as many seats as possible on newer planes
