I have stayed at HI East Taipei, HIX Taichung.

HI East Taipei - old property, lots of china tourists, a bit remote.
But its my go to hotel in Taipei because its only 10k points and treats its elites well.
Turn-down service includes a snickers bar every day, has free shuttle service to zoo / city hall, some nice local shops nearby. if you want to go PingXi for sky lantern, theres a straight bus outside the hotel which gets you there under an hour.


HIX Taichung - consistent HIX quality, has sofa bed which can accommodate 3 pax, location can't be beat. Near to Taoyuan train station ( not the high speed rail ), near to shopping street Yi Zhong, connected to a mall which has duty free products. Lots of shops selling the "traditional" SUN biscuits around there.
