Security is indeed never a factor on a Delta-Delta or Delta-Alaska domestic (or domestic-international) connection at LAX, and the longest possible walk between gates on the two airlines is about 10 minutes; all the gates in T5 are within a 3-4 minute walk of each other (if you walk quickly).

However, for a DL-VA connection (or any interline connection that involves clearing security or an airside transfer bus), 70 minutes would be cutting it quite close. I have missed an AS-VA connection when my (delayed) AS flight landed in T6 60 minutes before VA's scheduled departure.
