I dont think they did all they could. The least they could have done was provide my father a hotel night in HKG and fly him out direct to vancouver the following day, or put him on the direct flight to yvr later that night, or provide him accomodation and food voucher in sfo. Not leave him stranded in sfo airport at the middle of the night, especially in a city he is not familiar with.
