No pre-clear coming out of Australia. I assume a 2:45 arrival is on QF or Virgin Australia -- UA and DL arrive early in the morning.
Realistically, assuming you arrive on time, you're looking at setting foot on the sidewalk between 4:30 and 5:00. Will be sooner if you have no checked bags and/or Global Entry.
Just something to keep in mind.
