I have read this thread so I know that a miles upgrade and upgrade-instrument use are only possible on S & W fares rather than A.
Should I even ask at the lounge, elite check-in, or the gate in Houston, CDG, or neither? I have read some employees (correctly perhaps) give attitude when asking. I was wondering if this was confined to Paris or also true at out-stations.
This will actually only be my second AF long-haul flight so advice/opinions would be appreciated. I would also appreciate being pointed to any other threads. I mostly "lurk" on the Delta forum, rather than this forum. Thank you in advance for your responses.
This is no longer true. Since April, you can upgrade A-tickets to C with miles and a copay (e.g., CDG to ORD, 15,000 miles plus $300 each way). Conversely, S- and W-tickets only require miles towards upgrades to C. Word of caution though -- these days, I found it increasingly difficult to upgrade to C on certain routes; don't wait until the last minute!
