The rules are SDC is only available for UA-operated flights. For standby/same day change, technically you're going to be based on the rules of whoever is operating the flight you are supposed to be on.

Now, maybe you'll find a UA agent who will do it for you. But its technically not within SDC policy since you're not on UA metal, and being on a JV partner doesn't really change that.

If it gives you any indication, in IRROPS just after new years, I had to do a lot of convincing (and it needed supervisor approval) for an agent to change me from a UA morning flight to an AC flight the night before (all UA options were full), even though the flight I was booked on was under a travel waiver.
