Okay this Delta card is confusing me. Obviously the odds of two bad cards in a row that behave exactly the same are basically nil unless a whole batch is defective. I decided to go back to Walmart and try the self checkout (Ingenico instead of Verifone). The transaction went through first try but it was also confused by the card - the terminal had me select a language so somehow it didn't read the language code off the card. However, numerous attempts on the last one I was able to read the public info including language over and over with no problem? Bizarre.
