He is talking about the 777HD I believe, not the regular pods. The center armrest is between the two passengers, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it a wall.
OP I don't think you can get the single seats. That is a brand new restriction to try to settle elites' distaste for the aircraft and I don't see them easing it. Just check in right at T-24 and hope for the best. Until then select a center seat so you won't have to climb over people/have them climb over you, and the box your feet slide into when reclined is reported to be larger in the center seats.
