First I am new to FF programs I have to admit.
I recently start with SAA voyager and within few months I reached 35,000 miles ( I know it's not a lot). But my status kept showing that I am Blue. I then sent an email to Voyager help desk asking why my status is not upgrading accordingly and they replied that I have not flown 25k mi during this calendar year ( I am on 23k).
- I am then wondering if tier miles not expired are not counted toward tier status?
- Does one need to reach a tier status within the same calendar year?
- How about a Gold status: does one need to fly 50k mi within a year or it's just 25k when you are already Silver?
And the last one:
I have many long-haul trip programed this year, I was expecting at least to reach the Gold and get close to Platnum ( Most of my trips will be between USA and Africa); Can you recommend a better FF program within the Star Alliance?
PS: Apologies for my poor english, I'm a french speaker.
Thanks a lot.
To tier on SAA you must fly the following base miles between Jan 1 and Dec 31 each year (additional miles from credit cards, partners, business class travel, sign on bonuses etc do not apply)
25 000 Silver
50 000 Gold
100 000 Platinum
If you reach silver this year and next year you fly 40 000 miles you will remain a Silver as in the new year you start from scratch.
Remember if you reach gold this year and next year dont fly, the downgrade you only one tier per year, so next year you would be Silver and then only the following year Blue.
You can also tier by sectors (flying in business class)
I think its 12 long haul sectors a year for plat or about 100 on domestic/regional flights.
