I agree with your perception. For both Delta and KLM, EC is advertised as "up to" 4 inches more seat pitch, but the difference is hard to perceive on most aircraft. On a few aircraft types, like the KLM 747-400 Combi on LAX-AMS, EC has its own seating area, and is a two seat-across bench instead of a three seat-across bench.
