Yes, it would indeed be a good improvement.
Transfer service in FRA has been, to my experience, truly awful. I would not send any inexperienced traveller through FRA unless there really isn't any good alternative. Or their transfer time is at least 3 hours.
I've just heard way too many personal reviews from people who didn't made their 90+ min connection because, well, the incoming airplane was a bit late, it involved lengthy bus rides, long transfer walks, etc.
And unless CDG, SVO or LHR (yes, I'm taking those 3 "beasts" in comparison) where the transfer process within the same terminal has become really good, FRA hasn't really improved with the new Z gates. Sure, we see less remote stands, but distances have even improved in some cases..
If you've 90 minutes (MCT is much lower) on a ZRH-FRA-YYY flight, your incoming flight better be on time in FRA, because if your flight to YYY is departing from a far-away Z gate, you'll be walking approx. 2km.. after a bus ride to Arrival 1B.. finding the elevator down to the tunnel.. taking the tunnel.. taking the elevator up.. walking past half the A gates.. passing passport control.. getting a level up.. passing through the whole Z gates..
I figure out that if:
a) Landing on time, ie 90 minutes time to departure from touchdown you'll
b) Reach your remote stand after only 5 minutes (85 minutes left)
c) Wait 10 minutes for stairs connected to your A321, people moving out, finally taking the second bus (75 minutes left)
d) Have another 10 minutes (can be longer!) ride to the terminal (65 minutes left)
e) Getting from arrival 1B up, finding the way (right right left) to the elevator to the tunnel (5 minutes, 60 minutes left)
f) Walking the tunnel and taking the elevator up (5 minutes, unless there is a queue which happens often enough) - 55 minutes left
g) Walking through half the A gates, 5 minutes, 50 minutes left
h) Waiting at passport check, getting one level up - 5 minutes, 45 minutes left.
i) Getting through duty free and through Z gates area, 10 minutes - 35 minutes left, boarding just starting
And this for a semi-experienced traveller..
Now take the MCT available, and you'll know why many people can't make their connections in FRA.
Yes, sometimes you're lucky and you get nearby gates. Yes, I've not taken the best possible scenario (but also not estimated a really bad one) - so I totally understand why someone can be heavily frustrated from using FRA. (if the horrible new booking interface didn't frustrate you enough yet to avoid LH, then FRA surely can finish that job

)
