Even if they had provided a quicker way to the terminal it would still be very much pushing it, the passport control and security would still be there. That's the main problem and where FRA can be quite inefficient for transfers. Especially combined with all the bus traffic for feeders.

I'm flying to the US tomorrow on an early flight, and to minimise risk I will be arriving in FRA tonight. Probably not needed, but since I value my seat reservation I'm not prepared to take the higher risk on arriving late.

I still think compensation should be paid, but if that's done it's quite substantial for a 5 hour delay....
There's no need to go through passport control if arriving from LHR (non-Schengen) and connecting to ALA (non-Schengen). Since the UK is in the EU connecting passengers should not need to re-clear security in FRA, but as I already pointed out this is usually not possible because FRAport/LH cannot be bothered to direct arriving passengers from the UK onto departure level (as they do for ex-US passengers).

I had booked a 45-min connection the other day, my incoming flight was 21 mins late and I missed my connection to the UK. It was the first time I actually misconnected in FRA. As it turned out I could probably have made the connection (from A40 to B44 via the tunnel and passport control) if they hadn't told me before arriving I was already re-booked on a flight the following morning (along with several other passengers with connecting flights). I knew the risk but my mistake was to believe what I was told on the flight instead of going straight to the departure gate.
