I am stunned that Venezuela could possibly make up 84% of Avianca's revenue. Their route network, especially now with the acquisition of Taca, is just too large for that to make sense.

The temptation of the current 2x1 lured me into buying miles with my e-cert and spending cash out of pocket on top of that today. AV is a very important carrier in this part of the world, and to lose them would make flying more expensive in an already-expensive market. (Colombian nacional/domestic flights excluded)

I guess I'll keep supporting them in my small way by buying into their sales. It's not like it would significantly impact my life if they went under, and I sure would hate to think that I just sat by and watched when I could have done some beneficial travel (for me and AV) in the interim. They have their issues, but they aren't a bad airline, by any means.

I'm not confused. Businesses aren't charity cases. To watch a dictator like Maduro put a company's tender parts in a vice, however, is something that motivates my rallying spirit. As an international entrepreneur, I know what it's like to deal with the smallest of foreign government inconveniences. Something like this is unimaginable to me. Dealing with the inconvenient and uncomfortable bus rides that are currently part of BOG connections seems minor enough that I can live with it if it helps fight the consequences of such evil in a region of the world that I love.
