I completely agree that there is no justification that existing annual fee Arrival customers should be expected to meet some hidden criteria for a perk/benefit/level that new users are getting given immediately on the same annual fee card. There is no sliding scale of approval on the new version of the card (no plat, world etc just world elite) so should not be on the existing card with existing users. Again, with zero risk of adding World Elite to current customers I do not see why this is not being done system wide for accounts in good standing. The only reason I can conclude is that this is a marketing move by Barclaycard to give a perk to new users over existing of the same card. If that is the case then this is a terrible move in the name of customer retention.
What is interesting is on the Barclaycard and other forums users are now posting their scores and lines and there are a lot of very low credit lines and average to low scores that are getting approved for the new Arrival+ card and of course that means World Elite right off the bat. On the flipside a lot of people with high scores and very high credit limits are not even with a long history, the process/criteria seems extremely random.
This is a ridiculous way for Barclaycard to be handling this considering this is the same card !

Yeah, it's a really bad way to handle it. As someone posted on the travel site, why is this distinction between existing and new? It would be different if new applicants were only approved for World and also had to earn World Elite via an upgrade. However since everyone either gets approved for World Elite or declined, there's no justification to require existing accounts to earn something that's handed out to new accounts. And the community manager hasn't addressed anything other than repeating the process that some accounts are getting upgraded and more may get upgraded with planned campaigns in 2014. And then she's busy answering questions no one has asked, meanwhile ignores questions being asked by everyone.
