Like most people, I haven't been to the new airport yet but I recall watching a video animation depicting the arrivals and departure process recently (will search my internet history to try and find a link). It looks like security (i.e. metal detector/hand luggage screening) will be at each gate before the "holding pens". This means if you are transferring you just make your way from your arriving flight and directly to the gate for your next departure (like Singapore Changi T1+2 (not been to the newer terminals so cannot comment/compare).

I am sure there are pros and cons of security at each gate versus security in 1 or 2 concentrated areas before the departure gates but it will be interesting to see how it works (and whether it makes connections easier).
