Had an accident, no insurance with me and Hertz going to charge me for the Liability
Well, I know I was a idiot when I rent this car without insurance, but long story short, two and half months ago I rent a car from hertz, I did not buy LIS, and at that time I did not have any insurance with me. Because of the heavy snow that day I hit another car during my left turn. Lucky, it's just a very small accident, there's no damage on the car I rent, and only one scratch on the other car at the front bumper (about 2 to 3 inches) .
I read Hertz's term and condition very carefully and they said they would provide secondary liability insurance in my state, and if there's no collectible insurance, then the secondary insurance would become primary, although this insurance is quite low, I think it's enough in my case ($1000 or $1500 should be way enough for this loss in my thought, correct me if I'm wrong).
But yesterday I got a call from Hertz Claim Management, a woman asked me if I've already paied to the other party, I told her I think in my case Hertz should pay for that cause I did not have my insurance at that time. Well, she told me Hertz would not hook me up in my case and they would come after me after Hertz pay to the other party.
Anyone had any similar experience? I will try to fight for this claim, do you guys had any suggestions? Or know anything about Hertz Claim Management? Besides, the woman told me I can not rent from hertz now, guess I should be put on hertz's Do Not Rent list, I'm a 5* member and rent about 15 times per year, so guess I would switch my $3K budget (I know it is not a big business to hertz) to other company. Thanks ahead for any reply, thanks!
PS. The lesson I learnt form this case is "I need to buy my own policy even though I do not have a car". So I purchase my non-owner policy after that accident. I know someone should pay to the poor guy hit by me, and in fact I'm willing to pay for it if I had to, but what really mad me angry is Hertz said clearly in the rental terms and conditions they would provide the liability insurance while they actually would come after me.
