First time taking a flight that requires connection.
Are you in Y or J?
Either way, in the current airport, you get off the plane and get on a bus. The bus will transfer you to either the transfer & departure terminal (Y) or premium terminal (J) [you are unlikely to get off at the wrong terminal, because the premium bus won't stop at the transfer & departure terminal (unless specifically requested, e.g. for transfers to non-QR flights, which is very rare), and the Y bus won't stop at the premium terminal].
Then once you get to the appropriate terminal, you get off the bus, enter the terminal, go through security (bottles from the previous QR flight WILL be confiscated if filled), and then do what you do at an airport, i.e. find a seat next to a gate, go to a lounge, find a restaurant, or whatever.
Then when the time comes, you go the appropriate gate, get on a bus, and the bus takes you to the plane.
For the new airport, not that I've been, then it'll probably be a matter of getting of a plane directly into the terminal building, enter transit after security, then proceed to appropriate gate, then depart.
Basically, for most transits, once you deplane, you just enter a terminal, and repeat everything you would do at a departure airport except for check in, i.e. --> security --> main bit of terminal (shopping, eating, lounging, sleeping, etc.) --> go to gate --> depart. Exceptions would be for international-domestic or vice versa connections in some countries and in airports where the connecting terminals are totally separated, and you have to go through the entire immigrations and customs stuff
