I forgot about the "hot and sticky" part of Singapore. Def don't want to be too hot and sticky starting my SIN-TPE-JFK flight (despite flying in business...) I was considering the free tour thinking I'd not have to deal with passport control and returning through security checks (but maybe I'm wrong on those assumptions).

I'll look closely at the links you referred to. I'm sure it is there also, but if we do decide to leave the airport... any acceptable hotels that are about the same price as the transit hotel?
