I had been looking for a hardside carryon for some time. I ended up buying the Crew 9 Expandable - got a great deal at a big box store. I've only flown one time with it, but thought it was great. It fit's in United's overhead wheels out - I didn't try the sizer and the GA's didn't say anything when I was boarding. My old Samsonite had to go in sideways (it didn't have the slope on the top).
I thought the wheels rolled much better on carpet than my previous spinner. I'm not sure any spinner will really do well on carpet. The wheels may have rolled a little too well though. When I took my bag out of the rent car, I sat it down and turned to unload more. When I turned back, my bag was cruising across the parking lot - and it wasn't much of a slope.
I would have preferred a 2 wheeled bag (they are rare in a hard side) but am pleased with the Crew 9 so far.
