The Sofitel is also very close to Times Square, so this is not really a criteria IMO. I have never stayed at the Sofitel (I've only been to their restaurant twice) but I stayed several times at the Novotel (last time in january) and it's a very nice hotel. I think I read the Sofitel rooms have also been renovated. I always want to try the Sofitel but every time I go to NY, the price difference between the 2 is quite significant, so I choose the Novotel. But if the prices are equivalent...
