It's common for states to print out a temporary license while they prepare and mail the permanent one. (Wasn't back in the day of Polaroid photos and simple lamination, but it is now.) You will not, repeat NOT, be the first person who ever showed a car rental clerk a temporary license. They see lots of them (including mine, at least once). It's totally, absolutely ordinary. Don't give it another thought.
