You're not missing much - you're not even in the air for ~7 hours, and the F&B is barely any different. And we know of course there's no GF lounge in EWR to enjoy anyway.
Would only switch to a connection if you could get LH F via FRA/MUC once within 15 days.
This is a great example of what's wrong with UA. Refunding the mileage difference ought to be a no brainer. If they really want to be flier friendly, they should do things to help the customer. #flierfriendly
