Bonus welcome points are only in Europe I believe. Different hotels offer 300/500/600 points to welcome Platinum members. You have a choice among bonus points, drink voucher, or snacks, like Hilton has been doing for years. (you may call IHG a copycat)

Again we have to wait till July to see whether IHG will roll it out globally or not.
