Background
I had 2 Citi free weekend night certificates which I used back in February. When I received my confirmation email I clicked the upgrade option button and I was offered an upgraded room for free based on availability.

Fast forward to last week. I had 120,000 points and then I see that I am in the negative. My account shows a deduction of 125k points on May 9 for my stay at the HGI in February. I call HHonors and they opened a ticket to research the problem.

From what I gathered, their view is that I got an upgraded room and certs can't be used for upgraded rooms so someone went in 3 months later and took out the amount of points for the room I got (the base room rate was 50k, not sure how much the room I got was).

We will see what happens. Has anyone else had this issue?
