I do not yet know how the premium economy is treated yet - i.e. - is it treated as it's own cabin such that going from Economy to Business is a 2-cabin upgrade?
I would expect that whether you are in Economy or Premium Economy that you will be treated the same - and we are back to Status / Sequence Number.

I will see if I can find out and then post again. - However- I do have the same question as I have 8 segments coming up in Premium -Y and 2 have no cleared the upgrade yet.

And I've missed out on an upgrade as a SE with sequence 0001, when upgrades WERE given out (as confirmed by gate agent).
