I am a former SE who turned into E who turned into P who turned into comped-P and now has no status at all.

So, as long as I see the complaints continuing as the product continues to go downhill it continues to validate my decisions.

So I hope people continue to post their negative experiences. I want to see them it helps me make my future decisions.

The apologists just get annoyed at the negative posts and make them want to shut up. I don't see anyone trying to shut up anyone who has come along and said what a great flight they had and how the product suits them. But I see a lot of the opposite from the same handful of guys, that are always along the lines of:

- shut up
- if you don't like it leave
- don't let the door hit you on the way out
- you don't understand that it's like this because AC is a business

Same four things repeated constantly to anyone who has a negative opinion.

So what? Is this your problem or anyone's problem? This is a MODERATION problem. If it is against the rules of the site or is off topic, the moderators are here to warn, re-file the thread or delete posts.

There is nothing that forces you to read that guy's complaint about the HD. Nothing. You can just skim to the next post. It is PERSONAL CHOICE to read such a thing and become annoyed by it.

I don't think they should be told to shut up, and I don't think that anyone who wants to "explain" why AC's product is going down the tubes because it's "a business" should shut up either. Rather I think there is a debate to be had with those guys that making your product better is also valid for "a business" to be competitive.

The airlines just take the easy way out, the race to the bottom, almost in collusion.

Again, so what? One of the reasons this place exists is for people to vent. Someone new comes along to this site, joins, and sees complaint #847 from this same poster, but to that guy's eyes, it is the first time he's seen this complaint. Because you or anyone else may be an addict reading every single post by this guy so that you drive yourself crazy reading all 847 similar complaints, this is a problem with the eyeballs of the reader.

The solution is to move forward.

Complaining about complaining does not improve anything, instead it invites complaints about complaining about complaining.

Some of us already did, we bought tickets on other airlines.

I have been fully supportive of AC and Aeroplan service and the personnel, I have had great service where other people have had bad service.

That said, thanks to this site, I know to avoid the HD like the plague.

The complainers and ranters who dissected every single "enhancement" to come from the AC marketing team and expose it for the downgrade that it is have assisted me in moving my business elsewhere. The fact that they dissect and classify this stuff is fueled by their outrage at being lied to and their business being devalued by the airline.

The apologists come along and call them bottom feeders and repeat the same lines of crap as usual.

But for me, I read this stuff and I go wow, I have to change what I am doing because this reward plan no longer rewards me and I would not have been able to figure all this out on my own. So thank you hateful ranters, you saved me money and from having negative experiences. So sad that this hurts the corporation (well according to apologists losing my business helps them, the corp can make no mistakes), but I have to look after number one and the haters are sure helping me do that. The apologists would rather have me fork over my money and get reduced benefits in exchange and I should "like it" because "it's a business" and so on.

The apologists just do not help me or anyone, they only help the AC bottom line. If the apologists had their way I would never read the rants because they are "all about the same thing" and instead those posters should "go do something about it" (what besides buying tickets elsewhere?).

In the end the ranters raised my appreciation and understanding of a lot of things about air travel and travel in general and how I can maximize my experience.

The ranters have contributed positively to my own personal experience and ability to make informed choices. But the apologists are just blah blah blah shut up I don't want to read this anymore blah blah blah. To me, that is adding nothing. It's not educating me. It's not preventing me from falling into the same trap that the ranter fell into (the reason why he's ranting). It's not helping me make an informed decision.

This is not to say that positive posts don't help: they are the reason I became SE, and I had used FHR, and that I have been able to take advantage of mini-RTWs.

But the apologists are not positive posters.

They are hostile, negative posters that just exist to contradict the negative experiences that other posters have had by trying to undermine their own personal and subjective experience. That is until they have their own, in which case it's OK for this website to become their own personal complaint board, but once that time is passed, it's back to contradicting anyone who's had a complaint or negative experience.

Again, this is not constructive in the way that either positive or negative posts are. It just wants people to shut up because the apologist doesn't like their point of view.

In the end these factors are at play in all things, it reminds me of false patriotism in a lot of ways. Where if people are critical of their government the false patriots come along with the stock likes that you can love it or leave it, nobody is making you stay here, you need to shut up and support the president, and so on. The false patriots never help anyone or anything except for those in power to abuse power. They're not real patriots because they don't allow any criticism and use various excuses for their intolerance of criticism. They never use their own power to edit their own stream of information and effectively change the channel. Rather they want to control what is being broadcast so that it suits their own personal preferences.
My apologies. I mistook this forum for a place to discuss ideas and concepts, and offer potential solutions in the face of current changes within the airline industry. Changes that are not limited to one specific airline, but go beyond the entire industry.

In the future, I will know better and avoid commenting when people are simply ranting. If that makes one feel better, then more power to them.

Thank you for the insight.
